Things to do in Cameron Highland, Malaysia

This highland is the most popular destination among Malaysian and international tourist aside from other highland like Fraser Hill or Bukit Tinggi . Due to its cool weather and lush greenary, people flock to this highland on every weekend, school break and public holiday are the worst time to go. Affordable accomodation is hard to find in peak holiday season and getting car park is a nightmare. I went with my family in the weekend just after long Chinese New Year long weekend

How To Reach Cameron Highland by public transport:

From Ipoh, there are buses  from Ipoh’s Medan Kidd bus terminal (5 min walk from the train station) to Tanah Rata. The buses travel via Simpang Pulai and stop at towns such as Kampong Raja and Brinchang.
From Kuala Lumpur, buses to Tanah Rata leave from Pudu Sentral Bus Station and it takes around 4.5 hours.

You can also rent a car and drive to Cameron Highlands. There are 2 road either from Tapah; the road is narrower and steeper OR from Simpang Pulai ; road are wider and gentler but further.

Things to Do In Cameron Highland, Malaysia

Visit to Farms:

Just imagine a vacation picking strawberries, chasing butterflies and sampling varieties of honey.
The highlanders are obsessed with strawberry, you can see restaurants with strawberry theme, strawberry toys, pillows, dresses, souvenirs, chairs, strawberry jams, ice – cream, milkshakes even strawberry dust bins..you name it and you get in the form of strawberry . Not just strawberry, bee farms and butterfly farms are also major attractions. You can visit the farm and see how honey is cultivated and even sample the various types of honey available.
If you are a nature lover, you can enjoy the butterfly farm where you can find several colourful free flying butterflies.  The Butterfly Farm is located close to the famous Kea Farm, about 3km from Brinchang.
From strawberry to bee to butterfly farms you cannot miss any one of them on your visit.

Visit to Boh Plantation:

Boh plantation located slightly north to Brinchang is supposed to be the largest tea plantation and the most famous one in Malaysia. We drove to the tea estate passing by endless lush tea plantations and breathtaking scenery with few pit stops to take pictures amidst the vast expanse of tea plantation.
Cameron highland visit is incomplete without a trip to Boh Plantation. You can go for a free guided tour and sip in the famous tea of Malaysia while sitting in their terrace restaurants, which is right at the edge of the hill, a glass building supported by steel and plenty of sunlight beaming through the glass panels. The view is stunning from the cafe.
Facts: The total land area is 1200 hectares and the company produces 4 million kg of tea annually which translates to about 5.5 million cups per day. This represents about 70% of all tea produced in Malaysia.

Stroll around Markets:

A visit to the market is one of the ways to learn more about the locals and their lifestyle. The most popular one is the Kea farm. You can get everything at one place starting from local produce from nearby farms, day-to-day products, souvenirs, flowers, vendors selling strawberries topped with chocolate sauce, sweet corn, boiled  peanuts and fresh vegetables at a wholesale price. But make sure to polish the art of haggling before hitting the market.
Apart from Kea farm, Brinchang Night market is also quite famous.

Lavender Gardens:

The newest attraction is the Lavender Garden just before Tringkap town, a theme park with rows of lavender plants. Perfect place for a photo shoot.
Apart from Lavender, there were many other types of flowers  like daisies, peonies, roses etc.
There is small gift shop near the exit where you can buy gifts, lavender products like potted lavender plants, soft toys, towel hanger, perfumes, artificial lavender plants. It also has a cafe offering cakes, brownies, strawberry milkshake, and ice creams.

Walk in Clouds at Mossy Forest:

The most famous one is definitely the Mossy Forest also known as Cloud Forest, Elfin Forest, or Upper Montane Forest. Tucked away at the ridge of the 2032 metre-high Mount Brinchang, Mossy Forest offers exhilarating views and is the best place to visit for sunrise and sunset. A blanket of spongy moss draping every tree and the ground with windy and the wet weather looks straight out of a fairytale.
You can opt for guided trips, where a guide can accompany you through the forests using a 400-meter long wooden walkway. Make sure to wear proper trekking shoes while visiting the forest and if you are planning to drive from the town till mossy forest then a 4 X 4 wheel drive would be the preferred vehicle.
