This was our first try on Airbnb on the Europe trip, as an alternative to hotel which were pricey , I think I will be extra careful when booking this in future. Airbnb is similar to the modern age of online community accommodation couch-surfing & freeloader but a paid one. Out of 3 places we stayed the last one didn't realy live-up to expectation, kinda felt should have stayed in hotel instead. The first one only a 12 hour stay as we arrived at midnight and left at 11am, there was not much to say. The second one in Rotterdam by far the best experience and I loved the city. The third place was the worst ! Read my review below for all 3 :

1st experience

" Great location. Was staying for a night, i have nothing bad to say about the place and the host. Mart on behalf of Frans was freindly and welcoming, the room on first floor was provided with coffee and clean towels. We arrived at midnight only managed to chat during our check out. Only comment I have is about the steep and narrow stairs to go up but thats just the house design for Holland. So prepare yourself to bring huge luggage up."  Fran and Mink Place - Schiphol Airport

2nd experience

"This was our second airbnb experience and this was the best to date. Bernadet, friendly host made sure we arrived smoothly with texts prior. When we arrived she gave a little insight on Rotterdam. The room located upstairs really lived up to expectation. When we say we were coming with our baby, she even placed a playpen in the room ! The apartment is just 2 minutes walk from train station. A quiet neighbourhood. She prepared water, coffee, snacks and gave instruction how to use washing machine. The room and the toilet was exquisite, i would definitely recommend this place. Lastly on our checkout, the host was kind enough to fetch us to Rotterdam train station ! I love Rotterdam." Bernadet's place-Rotterdam

Bernadet's living room - her working space not part of her listing area. Cozy duplex.

3rd experience

" We stayed for 3 nights and by far the worst experience we had. Conveniently located, a short walk from metro, when we arrived we were told to colect the key hidden at the planter infront. When we entered, the place smells like weed and dusty with cats hair all over the place. The host notified earlier that he had to be elsewhere and will clean the place after. After he came he cleaned while we were out. The place did look better after but the cats hair still visible that we didnt want to sit on the sofas the entire time. We did mentioned we were coming with our baby and he didnt say its unsuitable and whatnot. Not as pictured, the furniture was repositioned. The worst part was the backdoor having no key to lock! The entire time we were sleeping and out, the garden door was unlocked. Its very possible someone could have intrude while we were sleeping and out! When I messaged him about the backdoor without having keys, he only replied on our last day. He said the key is the same for the other key but still it didnt work. The back garden is nice but it is filled with cats poop. You have to carefully watch otherwise youll step on shit. The wifi ? Its neighbour's with little to no conection. So wrong ! With the price we paid I would rather stay in a hotel, its definitely not worth it. The past reviews maybe correct at the time written but not right now, the host need to maintain what pass reviews say."  Teun's Place -Amsterdam

The conclusion I got from this experience is :

1. Look for female host - its normal to see woman's place cleaner than man's.
2. Read pass reviews on the desired host - Sometimes its accurate sometimes its not. Some guests may have low tolerance some are totally strict. So which one is you? The host that gets majority good reviews is a good sign.

  1. It's the same here....buyer or renter be where ...next time try and check out the places first I think I would of left the last place real fast especially with a baby. That man should be ashamed of renting such a place if you can do a review on him somewhere do it so no one else stays there.

    1. We couldn't leave or cancel that place otherwise what we paid would just be a waste as non-refundable. So we accepted that. But surely know what to look in future.

    1. I think the trend nowadays is just the host usually hire someone else to be the host for guest.
